Alpine Electronics Introduces Receivers with Built-in HD Radio™ Technology

Back January 10, 2012

Exclusive feature from Alpine ensures easy transition between digital and analog stations

Torrance, Calif. (Jan. 10, 2012) - Alpine Electronics of America, Inc. announces the launch of six new receivers with built-in HD Radio™ service. This is the largest lineup of built-in HD Radio units ever offered by the company and includes 1-DIN CD receivers along with 2-DIN audio video (AV) head units and audio/video/navigation (AVN) systems. All six models will be on display at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) Jan. 10-13 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

HD Radio Technology offers digital broadcasting across the U.S. and provides advanced audio and data features to enhance the listening experience. There are over 2,000 AM and FM stations broadcasting with HD Radio Technology with more than 1,300 additional digital-only FM HD2/HD3/HD4 multicast channels sending new, exciting programming.

The Alpine receivers offer full control over HD Radio content and display “Program Service Data” such as artist and song name, and “Artist Experience” information such as album art (if the station provides this information). iTunes® Tagging allows for later purchase of desired songs and the Bookmark feature saves song or advertisement information. Live Pause is also available for playback of a song at a later time. Select models also have Alpine’s MediaXpander™ sound enhancement feature, which restores missing harmonics in compressed media.

“Alpine’s Smart Reception Management and MediaXpander technology mean improved sound quality for the user and are advantages over other HD Radio receivers,” said Steve Crawford, vice president and general manager, aftermarket business unit, Alpine Electronics of America, Inc. “Our wide lineup of models provides an HD Radio solution for every budget.”

New for 2012 and exclusive to Alpine is the Smart Reception Management feature for HD Radio reception. Smart Reception Management is a group of settings allowing the user to choose between solely digital signals, solely analog signals, a hybrid of the two signal types, or the Digital MC setting. The Digital MC setting allows for hybrid listening on the main HD Radio channel, but keeps the digital signal on the HD Radio multicast channel, so the multicast channel is maintained even in areas with weak digital signal. This avoids bouncing between the main HD Radio channel and the HD Radio multicast channel.
